Barely Works Technology
Pic Software  Page

- First we need a PIC at all
  - Learning to PIC with a PIC-EL - Part 1, QST 2007 May p. 37 looked promising at first but has several drawbacks.
    - Dedicated kit for experimentation - aimed mostly at discretes - PTT, CW, etc.
    - Serial, not USB.  Indeed, couldn't make USB work.
    - But, may have pointers to the parts or technology we need.
  - PIC-EL Part 2.  QST 2007 June p. 33.  Still no USB.
  - Another artice, Explore USB with theis USB to CI-V Interface, May 2007 QST, p. 54 looked good too, but turned out not to solve this particular problem.  Could still use the USB hints there, maybe.
  - IsoCat:  USB Transceiver control and sound card interface.  William Buoy, N5BIA, QEX 2007 Mar/Apr, p. 19.

- Research the options in the form of a development board and some ready to install parts.  Want:
  - Works on USB
  - RAM / ROM
  - Appropriately simple development environment
  - Serial for PLL programming, etc.
  - D/A or A/D?

Or could that be done with other discretes.

- Need to do several block designs and see what the requirements will be.
  - 70 cm
  - Time and Freq. Reference

- Time Wave
seems to have RS-232 / USB solutions, maybe something they have would help.

- The overall design in terms of serial comm to the parts, how far and how many, needs to be specified so the best solution can be found and recognized.
